JAKARTA: Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade recently confirmed that it has allowed wheat imports for animal feed. “We have given the permit. Feed millers should have used it for import realisation,” said Veri Anggriono Sutiarto, Import Director of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
Previously, companies incorporated in the Indonesian Feed Producers Association (GPMT) applied for feed wheat import permit with a volume of 200,000 tonnes for a 3-month requirement. Desianto Budi Utomo, General Chairman of GPMT told Asian Agribiz that wheat is a good substitute for corn although enzyme addition is needed. As of now, corn importation by feed millers is still banned since the government wants to increase local corn production.
