JAKARTA: A British man was reportedly arrested on January 9 for carrying three grams of marijuana in his buttocks.
Identified in an Antara Bali report as 58-year-old Stephen Russell Hakes, the man was arrested shortly after he landed in Bali from an AirAsia flight out of Bangkok, said Ngurah Rai Airport’s Head of Customs and Excise Budi Harjanto.
According to reports, Hakes had already been under suspicion by Customs officers. When Customs didn’t find anything in his luggage, they wound up doing a body check, where lo and behold, they found a dried drown substance in a plastic bag, stuffed up his buttocks.
After carrying out an analysis of the substance, it tested positive as marijuana.
The man could apparently face charges carrying a minimum penalty of five years and a maximum penalty of 15 years behind bards, along with a minimum of a Rp 1 billion fine and a maximum of Rp 10 billion fine.
