HYDERABAD: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths of Hyderabad have raided Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore and seized Rs 6.36 crore worth cigarettes and cosmetics attempted to be smuggled into the country from Singapore and the UAE.
The DRI sleuths arrested two persons in connection with the smuggling racket. In continuation of the ra ids at the Krishnapatnam Port on December 29, when the investigators seized Rs 8.92 crore worth cigarettes being smuggled into the country from the UAE, the DRI sleuths opened three containers and seized Rs 6.36 crore worth cigarettes and cosmetics of various brands on January 9 and 10.
“The smugglers were bringing in the cigarettes and cosmetics in the guise of mattresses under brand name `Honeymoon Comfort bed spread’ and paper napkin toiletries,” DRI additional directorgeneral MK Singh said.
DRI arrested two persons in connection with the smuggling racket. The arrested persons and the seized goods were produced in a court in Hyderabad on Tuesday and the culprits were remanded in judicial custody.
