MUMBAI: The rupee added six paisa to 63.35 versus the US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange among sustained overseas capital inflows.
Fresh selling of the American currency by exporters amid sustained inflows of foreign funds supported the rupee but a lower opening in the domestic equity market and the dollar’s gain against the euro, which sank to near nine-year low overseas, capped the rise, forex dealers said.
The rupee had lost 12 paise to log nearly one-week closing low of 63.41 against the dollar in yesterday’s trade on weakness in local equities amid fresh dollar demand from importers.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex tumbled 483.20 points, or 1.74 per cent, to 27,359.12 in opening trade.
