NAGPUR: Customs and central excise department has cleared a new inland container depot (ICD) at Butibori, which will boost export import (EXIM) business in the region. The facility was developed by Glocal ICD and has a potential of handling 3,000 containers a month. It is the first private ICD in Vidarbha.
AK Pandey, principal commissioner of customs, has issued a public notice on January 14 in this regard. Computerized processing of bills of entry and shipping bills under electronic data interchange (EDI) will start from February 1. The procedure for imports and exports have been outlined in the public notice.
For imports, the bill of entry will have to be filed electronically and will have to be processed online in an automated computerized environment. The original documents of certain declarations and certificates, wherever required, will continue to be attached with the assessed copy of the bill of entry, when it is presented in the import shed for clearance of goods. The requisite documents also can be asked for by the appraising officials if required, while processing the bills of entry. There are certain pre-requisities for filing the electronic declarations, which are required to be complied with before filing the bill of entry.
Exporters intending to claim benefits will be required to declare in the item segment of the reward claimed. Without this shipping bill will not be transmitted to director general of foreign trade (DGFT) for availing of such benefits.
A grievance handling mechanism has also been set up by the customs department. The assistant commissioner or deputy commissioner of customs can be approached by importers and exporters for this purpose.
