NEW DELHI: Coal and coke imports in India estimated to have grown by 6.8 per cent through 31 major and non-major ports in December 2015,compared to November of the same year.
The estimation was compiled India Coal Market Watch (ICMW) after its monitoring of the vessels positions and data received from shipping companies.
Imports during December 2015 stood at 17.36 million tons (mt) (provisional) as compared to 16.25 mt (revised) imported in November.
The provisional figure for the month of November 2015 was 17.13 mt.
Imports in December 2014 stood at 22.13 mt, according to ICMWs compilation.
Of the total imports during December 2015, non-coking coal was at 12.43 mt against 11.94 mt imported in November. Coking coal imports were at 3.66 mt in December 2015, up from 2.92 mt in November 2015.
Metallurgical coke imports during the month rose marginally to 0.24 mt from 0.23 mt last month while petroleum coke imports decreased to 0.70 mt in December 2015 from 0.78 mt in November 2015.
PCI coal imports were at 0.20 mt in December 2015, a drop from 0.26 mt imported in November 2015.
