KARACHI: Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR submitted first information report (FIR) before the customs court against directors/proprietors/partners of M/s B.M.W Electronics who are nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle LED lights and other electronics goods and evaded duty and taxes by mis-declaring description and quantity of actual goods imported.
On 28 October 2019, investigation officer submitted FIR and informed the court that on an credible information, the container was examined in the presence of surveyor, custodian of terminal yard of SAPT at Sea Side Examination Area, SAPT/EX-I, East Wharf Karachi and a container was found loaded solar system of assorted watt, packing material, electric wire in rolls, LED lights, light fixture of wall in metal, glass, plastic and crystal, LED soft strip light, bulb holder with nuts and other electronics related goods instead of declared other electronics goods.
He further submits that during the investigation, it is established beyond any shadow of double that above mentioned importer in connivance with the other associates-in-crime has attempted to evade duty and taxes amounting to Rs1,930,522 by way of mis-declaring the description and quantity of actual goods imported. After the hearing court taken FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered at the office of Anti-Smuggling Organization HQ NMB Wharf, Karachi for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
