KARACHI: The Customs Court accepted interim charge-sheet against Muhammad Mohsin Muhammad Farooq, son of Farooque Ahmed, proprietor of M/s Azmi Plastic Works, who was booked in a case of mega tax evasion.
On November 24, 2018, investigation officer of I&I-IR submitted interim charge-sheet and informed the court that the above-mentioned importer was registered for sales tax with RTO, Hyderabad as a manufacturer/importer for the manufacturing of plastic products but was involved in import of different items such as end core paper waste, printed paper waste, aluminum, iron and steel remeltable scrap, self-adhesive tricker paper copper thread RCC pipe, brass copper, display board and sale of the imported items directly in open market to the unregistered persons without any manufacturing process.
He submitted that during the raid on said premises, the team found and examined utility bills and found electricity bill in the name of Najmunissa Abdul Rauf and gas bill in the name of Maeem Plastic Works, however, Muhammad Naeem clearly refused having any connection with the subject registered person or any partnership and team also found nothing in the name of the registered persons namely M/s Azmi Pastic Works.
He further submitted that during physical verification of the premises, large bags of local plastic waste were found lying in the premises with a very old machine installed in the premises for only crushing of plastic wastage in to pieces. No imported material of any kind was found stocked in the said premises.
He argued that the said importer is making huge imports of the above-stated items since registration and sell the same directly in open market without going into any manufacturing process just to evade applicable taxes and duties, actually, the above-stated registered person is carrying out activity as commercial importer making huge imports of above stated goods and evaded payment of value addition tax of approximately Rs13.722 million by mis-declaring himself as manufacturer.
