MANILA – International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has beefed up its operations in Manila and Subic in a bid to serve the growing volume of containers coming in and out of Luzon.
In a statement on Friday, ICTSI said it deployed four units of mobile container handling equipment at Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) and New Container Terminals 1 and 2 at the Subic Bay Freeport. The Subic terminals are operated by ICTSI subsidiaries Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. and ICTSI Subic, Inc.
The new reach stacker models made by Kalmar Industries AB of Finland — the first of their kind to operate in the Asia-Pacific region — bring to 27 the mobile container handling units deployed at the MICT and Subic terminals, according to ICTSI.
The port operator claimed that its fleet of reach stackers and empty container handlers is the largest in the Philippines.
ICTSI said the new reach stackers will increase its ports’ productivity with their 45-ton total lift capacity.
“These don’t just provide highly productive and reliable equipment; they appreciate the dynamics of the business and as a result, can provide solutions that boost productivity yet reduce our costs of operation. We have an ambitious development strategy to become one of the world’s leading port management companies and on the same global stage, Kalmar is clearly a trusted partner,” Antonio Coronel, ICTSI purchasing director, said in the statement.
MICT, ICTSI’s flagship operation and the country’s largest international container terminal, has an annual capacity of 4.2 million twenty foot equivalent units.
ICTSI is the largest port operator in the Philippines and has a portfolio of 29 container terminal operations in 21 countries across six continents.
