HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized huge quantity of foreign origin Indian Gutka including truck being used for smuggling goods during successful action.
Sources told Customs Today that on strict instructions of Director-General Zahid Khokhar, the I&I Hyderabad region took effective measures to check the smuggling in the region.
Sources told that Deputy Director Shah Faisal Sahu received credible information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle contraband huge quantity of non-duty paid Indian Gutka.
After receiving this information, he constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Customs Superintendent Tariq Rafique, Intelligence Officer Syed Shafique Ali and others. The team, during a search operation in Sanghar intercepted a vehicle truck bearing registration no: TKB-540. During search, the team recovered Indian gutkha worth Rs15 million.
Prior to the recovery of item, the officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the goods but he could not prove anything.
After his failure, Customs I&I team seized the goods and truck and after registering a case started further investigations.
Officials said all possible measures will be taken to curb smuggling in the region as vigilance has also been enhanced.
