HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad collected Rs 3.7168 million through auction of non-duty paid goods and vehicles during November 2016.
The auction was held at Hyderabad State Warehouse where different types of smuggled goods, including shampoo, 81 role of paper plastic, 407 tyres, Toyota Crown Salon and Toyota Hilux were put on auction.
During the auctions, some vehicles and other miscellaneous items were successfully auctioned. The auction was held through open bidding where everyone was given equal opportunity for bidding of confiscated goods and vehicles.
Deputy Collector Shahid Ali Abbasi said that Hyderabad Customs was taking actions against the smuggling actively to save the national economy and local business community, adding that all items presented for auction were seized by the Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO).
Shahid Ali Abasi and Assistant Colletor Shahd Iqbal supervised the auction process to ensure transparency along with Superintendent Slaeem Husain Shah, Inspector Abdul Rauf Qureshi, Inspector Saleem Ajmeri, Inspector KK and Constable Muhammad Husain.
The customs has deposited Rs 3.71 million to national exchequer earned through the auction of smuggled items in November 2016.
Meanwhile, a team of ASO following the instructions of Collector Agha Shahid Majeed conducted raid and confiscated smuggled cigarettes of different brands worth Rs 135,000.
The ASO team raided Pathan Colony, Hyderabad and seized foreign oaring cigarettes, which were allegedly being smuggled from Karachi to Hyderabad. After making seizure report, the ASO team deposited the confiscated cigarettes to state warehouse.
Under the supervision of Additional Collector Omer Shafique, the ASO team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Akbar Phanwar, Deputy Superintendent Anwar Ahmed Siddiqui, Inspector Waqar Ahmed Baig, Inspector Syed Nazim Ali and others participated in the raid.
