HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate collected Rs 3.132 billion under the head of customs duties and taxes during first four months (July-October) of current fiscal year 2016-17.
According to details, the department generated Rs 776.25 million as customs duty, Rs 2,207.2 million in wake of sales taxes, Rs 3.835million under the head of federal excise duty (FED) and Rs 144.822 million as withholding tax (WHT) during the said period.
The major tax sources were remained Huffaz Seamless Pipe Industries, Crescent Steel, Omni Polymer Industries, Rema Cooking Oil and the Pakistan State Oil. The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) also seized non-duty paid goods worth million of rupees during the four months.
Under the supervision of Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed, Additional Collector Rehmatullah vistro, Additional Collector Omar Shafique, Superintendent Mohammed Yaqoob Pasha played important role in revenue collection, officials said.
They added that the anti-smuggling campaign was in full swing in the region following the direction of the Federal Board of Revenue and Collector Agha Shahid Majeed in order to save the national economy. During the first four months the ASO foiled various smuggling attempts and made big seizures, including non-duty paid cigarettes and gutka worth Rs 17.83 million, Rani Juice worth Rs 5.17 million and others.
