BUDAPEST: Hungary has becomes the world’s 15th Chinese pork supplier when it launched a shipment of 25.68 tons of frozen pork knuckle to China Tianjin port. Now also being the world’s 22nd country with access to China’s meat market.
According to Hungarian news agency MTI, the agreement, which grants Hungary access to the Chinese pork market, was signed last year.
Hungarian farming minister Sándor Fazekas and Zhi Shuping, head of the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in November signed a protocol on shipping milk and beef from Hungary to China.
MTI added that China has just halted pork imports from its main Eastern European suppliers due to the outbreak of African swine fever in the region; Poland had a 7.3% share of China’s pork imports in 2013, selling 42,738 tons and becoming China’s sixth-largest source of imports. China, however, has currently placed a ban on Polish imports.
