HONG KONG: Shanghai stocks fell in the first few minutes of trade Friday after clocking up a near two percent gain the day before while Hong Kong also retreated despite a strong rally in US markets.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.65 per cent, or 19.60 points, to 2,988.05, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, lost 0.76 per cent, or 14.20 points, to 1,845.17.
And in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index slipped 0.18 per cent, or 35.95 points, to 19,781.46.
