NAWABSHAH: Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) has launched a massive crackdown to overcome power theft in the city and also formed a women task force to nab these defaulters.
This was stated by Superintending Engineer HESCO Nawabshah Circle, Farooq Ahmed Afgan in an informal talk with media persons at Nawabshah Press Club on Saturday. He said that government announced strict punishments for power thieves that included up to three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 10 million. He pointed out that those found stealing power through kunda system would also have to face imprisonment of three years and fine of Rs 3 million.
He said that consumers using commercial or industrial meters detected in manipulating the meter would face imprisonment of three years, fine of Rs 6 million or both punishments at the same time. He said that agriculture consumers found involved in tempering of meters would also face the similar music.
