SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, has confiscated smuggled Indian black pepper and cumin seeds worth Rs 150,000 during an action on Grand Trunk (GT) Road near Wazirabad Bridge.
On the directions of Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood, Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi deputed Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar to check vehicles on GT Road.
The deputy superintendent along with his team members including Intelligence Officers Syed Majid Raza and Saad Iqbal, Constables Asad Raza, Mubashir and Boota started checking of vehicles in order to prevent the smuggling of foreign origin goods.
The team intercepted a bus bearing Registration No MR-AJK-4429 Model 2007 which was coming from Mirpur (AJK) and going to Sialkot. The team searched the bus and recovered Indian origin black pepper and cumin seeds.
The team asked driver named Yaqoob about booking documents of the said items, but could not produce the same. The driver informed that the recovered goods were loaded on the vehicle at General Bus Stand Mirpur instructing him to deliver them in Sialkot.
Therefore, the team confiscated the said items and released the driver along with bus after proper interrogation. The team has shifted the items to the store of Customs Intelligence and registered a case under the Customs Act, 1969 against the staff of General Bus Stand Mirpur.
