GSP plus status to increase employment countrywide: Punjab CM

LAHORE: The prospects of Pakistan’s access to the markets of European countries and increase in its exports in the wake of GSP Plus status also include rise in employment in the whole country enhancing industrial production.

These views were shared in a meeting between Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and British member of European Parliament Dr. Sajjad Karim who was leading a delegation.

Punjab CM said that all out measures are being taken to take full benefit from GSP Plus status and the Punjab government has constituted a special cabinet committee in this regard which will soon be presented for its final recommendation.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Dr. Sajjad Karim and other expatriate Pakistanis living in Europe have played a key role in the awarding of GSP Plus status to Pakistan. He said that government will fully benefit from this golden opportunity and all conventions will be fully observed in accordance with European Union standards so that maximum Pakistani products could have access to European markets.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Dr. Sajjad Karim in the granting of GSP Plus status to Pakistan and said that government is offering special incentives to textile sector so that it could compete in international market.

Dr. Sajjad Karim while speaking on the occasion said that awarding of GSP Plus status by European Union has provided a golden opportunity to Pakistan to increase its exports. Provincial Ministers Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Ch. Muhammad Shafique, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Members Provincial Assembly Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Secretary Labour, Industry, Women Development, Human Rights and other officials were present. The delegation included Dr Imdad ud Din, Nasim Niaz, Zahid Aslam and Koutar Abusmir.
