FAISALABAD – Khurram Dastgir Khan, the federal minister for commerce, has disclosed that Pakistan had exceeded the target of an additional USD 1.08 billion export from January to October 2014 to the EU under GSP Plus status despite all the handicaps.
Addressing the members of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, he said being confronted with severe energy shortage and extremism, it is a great achievement.
The minister added, “This is encouraging for all of us as it is slightly beyond the expected growth target that the Ministry of Commerce had set.” Referring to euro statistics, he said that Pakistan’s exports to EU have increased by an additional USD 1.08 billion from January to October 2014. The figures are especially encouraging for the value added textile sector as its exports to the EU have shown 25% growth which is pleasant trend.
He stressed a need for increase in overall exports of the country. “Commerce Ministry is in a process to re-design the model of EDF as its previous version is not benefiting the export sector. New textile policy will be approved within 15 days and implemented soon,” he said.
