BAHAWALPUR: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the concept of trade instead of aid after achieving the status of GSP Plus has opened new avenues for economic stability of the country.
Addressing the 7th convocation of Islamia University here on Friday, he said President Mamnoon Hussain said that government is trying its best to overcome energy crises and the appreciation in rupee value, increase in foreign reserves and the upward trend of stock market index are the signs that country’s economy has put on the right track due to the positive policies being adopted by the government.
He said that development of education sector, especially higher education is government’s top priority. Pakistani youth are blessed with talents and that only quality education could unleash their potential for benefit of the society.
The President said that the nations which lagged behind in education failed to fully exploit their true potential, thus halting socio-economic progress. He urged the youth to concentrate on acquiring modern education to put the country onto the path of progress and prosperity.
Punjab Governor who is also the chancellor of the University Ch. Muhammad Sarwar underscored the need for focusing on faculty development programs in educational institutions in order to enable them to impart quality education to students.
Earlier Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Rao Muhammad Afzal Khan in his welcome address told that for the first time in the country on-line admission system has been launched in Islamia University, under which forty thousand applications have been received which shows that the University is playing the role of leading institution of South Punjab.
President Mamnoon Hussain also distributed certificates, degrees, gold medals and silver medals among the position holders in different disciplines from Ph.D to Masters level of Session 2010 of Islamia University.
