MULTAN: The experts of Agriculture Department have advised the growers to remove weeds from wheat fields to lessen chances of production losses by 42 per cent.
According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, experts said that presence of weeds in 80 per cent of the fields is often more than the economic threshold level and may need application of spray. Farmers should spray recommended pesticides some 30-35 days after sowing in case of tackling wide-leaf weeds and 45-50 days after sowing in case of pointed leaf weeds. Killing of weeds becomes easy by spray when they have only 3-5 leaf.
Farmers, however, should avoid applying spray in case of wheat sown on sandy or saline land. Experts said that a number of pesticides were available in the market to tackle weeds problem, however, farmers should apply spray only after consulting agriculture officials.
