DHAKA: The government is planning to give the pharmaceutical industry a boost with cash incentives for exports. “I can assure you that a cash incentive on export will be given to your industry very soon,” Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said yesterday.
Six sectors, headed by the pharmaceuticals industry, and including ship building, leather, furniture, jute and agro products have been earmarked for export promotion.
Tofail was speaking at the inauguration of the 8th Asia Pharma Expo 2016 at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital. The minister said the government had set two targets in its seventh five-year plan to boost exports – product diversification and market diversification.
“We are gradually entering new markets and exports will reach $60 billion by 2021,” he said. In the next three years, pharmaceutical exports alone are expected to reach $5 billion.
