LAHORE: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) directed counsels to conclude their arguments appeal filed by owner of M/s Hafiz Plastic Works against the Regional Tax Office-II(RTO-II) until the next date of hearing.
FTO Advisor Mian Munawar Ghafoor heard the case in which counsel for the appellant argued that the Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) has failed to release the tax refunds since two years which was claimed by the company.
He said that the RTO has been collected excessive taxes from past two years. He approached the commissioner concerned many times for release of refunds but the RTO officials failed to entertain the request even after a lapse of a reasonable time.
At the end, the company decided to approach the FTO, seeking intervention in the case. The counsel appealed the FTO advisor to direct the RTO to clear the refund claims.
The counsel further said that RTO should refund the excess collection in wake of taxes by the end of financial year but the situation is quite otherwise. Delay in issuance of refunds put burden on the taxpayers, he said, adding that the Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) Lahore should make audit of the cases and release the extra amount collected by it from the taxpayer.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, Federal Tax Office (FTO) seeks all relevant record and final arguments from appellant and respondent as well to conclude case soon.
