PARIS: French Creek Seafood donated 4,000 cans of West Coast salmon to the local food bank.
“It means a lot,” Salvation Army Major Norman Hamelin told from Salvation Army’s French Creek location. Hamelin said the months following Christmas are often the most difficult for food banks.
The timing (for this donation) is excellent,” he said, noting the Salvation Army food bank serves around 400 families in Parksville Qualicum Beach per month.
He said canned salmon is especially important because it’s both a good source of protein and has a long shelf life.
French Creek Seafood’s Brad McLean said the donation is just one way of givingback to the community. We’ve been here for 25 years now and the community has been great to us,” said McLean. “This is just our way of giving back to those in -need.”He said the salmon comes from the waters lining Parksville Qualicum Beach.
This is the third year French Creek Seafood has made a major donation of canned salmon to the food bank.
