KARACHI: Mian Muhammad Adrees, President FPCCI has urged the government to extend the existing Sukkur – Lahore motorway to Karachi. He argued that Karachi is the economic hub with the facility of two ports handling more than 60 percent of Pakistan’s cargo and this city is also contributing about 70% revenue to the national exchequer. The Pak-Afghan transit trade activities are mostly initiated from Karachi and Karachi Stock Exchange is one of Asia’s most active and fast growing capital market.
The President FPCCI has further emphasized the need of construction of Karachi Sukkur Motorway so that it is connected with the major cities of Pakistan. This will not only enhance and facilitate the trade and industrial activities from Karachi to Lahore but also facilitate speedy transportation of goods from Karachi.
Mian Adrees applauded the vision of the Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and his team to develop communication and transportation network to augment and boost the trade and industrial activities in cities and rural areas alongside of the motorways. He drew the attention of the Finance Minister towards the Finance Bill 2015 in which the government has allowed export of perishable items from KPK province to Afghanistan in Pak currency which will further increase the traffic on the motorways.
Mian Adrees further said that CPEC is the most important and vibrant pilot project while the motorway network of the country would be supportive links for CPEC to spread the utility of CPEC in far flung rural areas of the country. He further said that all motorways will serve as road link to the corridor.
