NEW YORK: A former New York prison guard pleaded guilty Wednesday to a drug smuggling conspiracy that brought hundreds of pounds of pot over the Canadian border.
Federal agents say during 2010 and 2011, the smugglers transported loads of marijuana through the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation destined for cities like New York and Boston.
Agents caught Brad Rushford, 33, of Ellenburg Depot, in a sting. They say he handled transportating the pot on the United States side of the border.
Rushford pleaded guilty Wednesday and faces up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced.
