ISLAMABAD: A passenger has been arrested at International Departure Hall of Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad carrying different foreign currencies worth over Rs 2.1 million.
The search of the passenger at ASF scanning machine in the presence of the customs staff led to the recovery of foreign currency exceeding prescribed limit for an international outbound passenger i.e., $ 5000. The name of the passenger was Muhammad Ali. He was having a Pakistani passport and was resident of Swabi travelling to Sharjah.
The details of recovered foreign currency disclosed that he was carrying 72,800 Saudi Riyals worth Rs 2,028,208; 805 Bahrain Dinars worth Rs 21,524; 460 Qatari Riyals worth 13,202; 150 US dollars worth Rs 15,675; 100 British Pounds worth Rs 17,418; and 117.90 Omani Riyals worth Rs 30,890.
As the passenger had neither declared the possession of currency at custom currency detection counter, nor could produce any receipt issued by a currency dealer authorized by the State Bank of Pakistan he was accused of smuggling.
