MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) impounded huge quantity of almonds on suspicion of smuggling.
According to details, Field Intelligence Unit intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no: TKW-301 near Khanewal Bypass. The Customs Intelligence checked the vehicle and recovered 200 sacks of almonds without shell in their action.
The team asked the driver who was identified as Abdul Khaliq son of Gul Dad to show documents regarding legal import of the items.
He provided a bilty receipt to customs staff and informed that said goods were booked from Loralai Market and he was asked to transport the said almonds to Jhang. The market value of seized almonds is almost Rs 2 million, weighing 8000 kilograms.
He said that almonds are local but Customs Intelligence team detained the goods under Section 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 and 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act for verification. Further Investigations are still under process.
