LAHORE: Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department lodged an FIR the other day in a mega non-customs paid curtain cloth worth Rs 100 million case seized at a godown of Garhi Shahu.

The Model Customs Collectorate Preventive had recovered non-customs paid Rs 100 million foreign made curtain cloth last week.

The Customs Anti –smuggling staff on the instruction of Collector of Customs Preventives Mukaram Jah and supervision of Deputy Collector of Customs Shafiqur Rehman and Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal Mian,  along with inspectors including Khalid Butt, Safadar Bajwa, Irfan Mumtaz, Shaid Bahati, Arif Mayo, Mazhar Butt and Waheed Bahati raided a godown at Gari Shahu and seized the cloth worth Rs 100 million.

The customs authorities had shifted all the cloth to its godown near Shah Noor Studio, giving the owner a sufficient time period to produce relevant document and customs clearance proofs. However, the owner Ali Rehman failed to produce the documents and the Customs I&P registered an FIR against him under Customs Act Section 2(2). The Customs officials said that further investigations are underway.
