LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized five trucks carrying smuggled items from Misri Shah area of Lahore. The trucks were loaded with costly perfumes, tyres and cloths.
On intelligence information, FIA Assistant Director Mian Asif raided a warehouse near Misri Shah and recovered smuggled items of Rs 50 million loaded in five trucks. The FIA team arrested Muhammad Sadiq, owner of the warehouse.
According to sources, smugglers have collaboration with customs officials; otherwise it is impossible to deliver these non-customs paid goods to the centre of the city. Customs officials have formed special checkpoints at the entrances of the city, so smuggling is almost impossible without their consent.
The FIA’s campaign against smuggled goods is likely to continue in coming days, which might cause bitterness in relations between the FIA and the Pakistan Customs.
