ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has urged Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to take immediate action against the installation of devices at business premises to monitor sales in the federal capital.
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has installed computer chips at the sale counters, especially of restaurants and bakers to monitor their sales.
The Islamabad business community has strongly protested against the FBR step and said that this initiative was against the business activities.
ICCI President Muzzamil Hussain Sabri, addressing a meeting, said that the businessmen of the federal capital wanted to increase tax net but this step would create more distrust between the taxpayers and the tax authority.
He said ICCI has always been calling for confidence building measures on the part of government to remove trust deficit between taxpayers and tax collectors. However, instead of taking positive initiatives, FBR was resorting to measures that would increase trust deficit between businessmen and the government, he added.
The ICCI has also condemned SRO-608 which was issued without taking the business community into confidence and called for its withdrawal. They said unrealistic sales tax notices had further increased their problems.
