LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended two officers and a clerk on showing non-professionalism in their duties, as they allegedly collected fake income tax returns and wealth statements.
Sources said that three officials had collected fake tax returns and wealth statements of a private group of companies, which did not fall in the jurisdictions of RTO-II Lahore.
They added that RTO Gujranwala covered the accused company in its jurisdiction, while the officials violated the departmental law by collecting false returns of the said group.
As per details, the FBR suspended Upper Division Clerk Nasir Ali who entered the fake record of the accused company in the FBR software, violating the assigned duties and responsibilities.
On the other hand, Nasir claimed that RTO-II Lahore Inspector Sehgal Hussain had instructed him to do so. Similarly, RTO-II Lahore Deputy Commissioner Naeem Hassan, who verified the tax returns and wealth statements of the company, was suspended by the department on misusing his powers.
Interestingly, DC Naeem also said that he was insisted by Inspector Sehgal Hussain to verify the record of the accused company.
Sources said that intelligence teams were probing the case further to find the total amount of tax evasion and in this regard a team is checking the bank record of transactions made by the group of companies.
