ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) received data of non-taxpayers across the country which will be used to broaden the tax net, it is learnt here.
Official sources told Customs Today that the board has received detail of at least 748,541 of non-taxpayers from the motor vehicle branches across the country. They are non-taxpayers registered with vehicle above 1300CC while they are not paying any taxes, sources confirmed.
Meanwhile, sources said that K-Electric also provided details of 441,000 non-taxpayers, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company provided at least 334,000 of non-taxpayers data and Gujranwala Electric Supply Company provided data of almost 228,000 of non-taxpayers.
On the other hand, Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines provided 2,323 of consumers’ data who have commercial connections while property departments across the country have provided data of 484,000 non-taxpayers to FBR.
It is important to mention here that FBR is making concerted efforts to broaden the tax base and several initiatives have been taken in the recent past to increase the number of return filers while FBR has formulated a strategy to go after the tax-evaders by using information obtained from their transactions in the real estate sector, purchase of vehicles, foreign travels and also by accessing, in the long run, their bank accounts to assess the extent of tax avoidance and tax evasion.
