ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Member Customs Zahid Khokhar inaugurated a three-storey building of Customs Officers Mess-cum-Hostel building at G-11 Islamabad.
Addressing the participants, Peshawar Customs Collector Saeed Khan Jadoon, director of the committee which will look after the said project, said that there was a huge problem for customs officers who visited Islamabad from different cities like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar. He added that the officers do not have any proper place to live during their stay at Islamabad.
Jadoon said that he had come to know about this problem when he was collector of Islamabad Collectorate few months back that there is a 38 marlas plat of MCC Islamabad at G-11 Islamabad. He said that he appointed two officers Shahrukh Butt and Anwar Ali to get possession of the said plot by Capital Development Authority which they completed speedily. He said that with consultation of FBR Chairman Rukhsana Yasmeen and Member Customs of FBR Zahid Khokhar, a map of the building was finalized and now within next few weeks the construction work will be started.
He informed the participants that this building will have three storeys and one basement, the ground floor will comprise two-room compartments while 2nd and 3rd floors of the building will comprise apartments for officers who can avail short stay along with their families. He added that basement will be used for stay of drivers of Customs officers and other lower staff of the department.
On the occasion, FBR Member Customs Zahid Khokhar said: “We must make it sure that no customs officers use this building for permanent stay as it must be used for officers who visit Islamabad for a short stay.”
