KARACHI: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Bajwa on Monday visited Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Port Qasim and chaired a meeting.
MCC-Port Qasim Collector Surraiya Butt, Additional Collectors Irfan Javed, Ehsan Ali Shah and other officers attended the meeting. Surraiya Butt briefed the FBR chairman about the performance and revenue status of the collectorate.
Bajwa reviewed the overall performance of the collectorate and urged the officials concerned to pay extra heed to achieve the revenue targets.
The FBR chief also urged the authorities concerned of the collectorate to stop revenue leakages in terms of tax evasion, mis-declaration and violation of SROs. The FBR chairman also urged the officials to take proper measures to facilitate trade and curb smuggling.
Bajwa also lauded the measures taken by the MCC Port Qasim officials for examination of containers at the Qasim International Container Terminal.
The FBR head asked the officials to expedite the revenue collection in terms of customs duty to achieve the target during the third quarter of the fiscal year 2014-15.
Sources informed Customs Today that the FBR chairman is likely to visit Customs House on Tuesday (today). He will hold meetings with the collectors, directors and other officials of the department.
It is Chairman Bajwa’s second visit to Karachi. He visited the Customs House on 21 October.
The sources said that the frequent visits of the FBR chairman, FBR Member Customs Nisar Muhammad Ali and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Lutfullah Virk show concerns of the FBR high-ups towards the revenue collection. They added that the Finance Ministry has ordered the FBR to achieve revenue targets at all costs.
