ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha has taken serious notice of non observance of office timing by the officers and employees of the customs field formations.
According to sources, Secretary Management Customs-I Jameel Ahmed Baloch has sent a letter to all chief collectors, director generals, collectors of customs and directors and informed them that the FBR chairman paid a surprise visit to Customs House Peshawar last week at 9.30am. He found that the officers, except one, were absent without any prior official intimation and approval.
He further stated that chairman took serious notice of the lack of punctuality and discipline on the part of the senior officers of the Pakistan Customs posted at Peshawar. This presents a very grim picture of the state of affairs and represents the misconduct which is unbecoming of the officers.
If the senior officers are not strictly observing office timing, how can they enforce the same in respect of their subordinate officials and staff. This state of affairs is absolutely unacceptable and does not augur well for the service discipline and professionalism. He warned all officers and staff that if this trend will continue then strict disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against under the government Servants E&D Rules 1973.
