FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized huge quantity of ceramic tiles worth Rs 4.5 million involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 4.2 million. Besides it impounded a carrier vehicle worth Rs 5 million during routine checking.
According to details, Director intelligence Faisalabad Region Adnan Akram received credible information from their source that huge quantity of contraband items would be smuggled through their jurisdiction. Director Customs Intelligence alerted the Faisalabad Unit of Customs Intelligence and directed them to enhance monitoring of suspected routes to foil any bid of smuggling in the region.
Customs Intelligence formed special team including Superintendent Muhammad Tahir Iqbal, intelligence officer Muhammad Saleem Saeed Hayat, Muhammad Ramzan, Mansoor Nasir, sepoy Liaqat Ali Wasli, Israr Ahmed, Shoukat Hayat, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Shehbaz, Zeeshan Ahmed, Ali Haider, and havaldar Muhammad Iqbal and others to take action against smuggled goods. Following the directions of the director, the team intercepted a suspected truck bearing registration number NAB-779 (10 wheeler ) near Sial Morr interchange district Sargodha which was loaded with huge quantity of ceramic tiles.
Intelligence team recovered 1350 Ctn of ceramic tiles in their action. The origin of recovered contraband tiles was Iran and they were smuggled through Afghanistan. The customs officials asked the owner to produce the documents showing legal import of the tiles but the failed to produce any documents therefore customs officials confiscated the items the item under prevailing customs law.

A first information report No 55/2019 has been lodged against the smugglers Rab Nawaz son of Shah Ali from Mohallah Killi, Sheikh Munno Jan road Quetta and intelligence officer Mansoor Nasir is leading further interrogation.
