FAISALABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled goods worth Rs 44.3 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs14.6 million in different anti-smuggling activities during the month of December 2018.
According to details, Customs I&I team following the directions of Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, eight cases of smuggling were registered against suspects. The Customs I&I teams also impounded a non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs7 million being used for transportation of smuggled goods.
The Customs Intelligence conducted operations against smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction including Sargodha, Khushab and Faisalabad. Field Investigation Unit Sargodha registered two cases of smuggling during the month of December.
The customs team seized foreign origin old and used auto parts worth Rs5.1 million, foreign origin CT scan machine worth Rs 4.5 million while FIU Sara-i-Muhajir seized Suzuki Swift car bearing registration No AAQ-732 Quetta worth Rs1.5 million
The customs teams made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act 1969 after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items.
It is necessary to mention here that all these cases were forwarded to Customs Adjudication branch for further proceedings.
