FAISALABAD: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Faisalabad Dry Port (FDP) and DP World, a private multinational company operating at Port Qasim.
After this MoU, the traders of the city and adjacent areas will be able to use the facilities at the port, where DP World will provide a cargo train service from FDP to the Karachi port, which had earlier been suspended by Pakistan Railways (PR) after huge losses.
According to FDP Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique, DP World, one of the world’s biggest port companies will run the new service that MoU would help the importers and exporters increase the business activities at the port, adding that the volume of exports and import cargoes would increase due to business potential of FDP. He said that the monthly average cargo handling had come down from 2,500 to 3,000 containers to only 600 containers.
Siddique also condemned Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) over huge amounts of rebates that were stuck at the tax machinery and causing cash flow problems to exporters.
