Faisalabad ASO seizes smuggled tyres worth Rs58.7m

FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign origin non customs paid HTV tyres during a successful raid in the area of Bilal Ganj Motor Market Sargodha Road.
Sources told Customs Today, that Collector Muhammad Saleem directed Anti-Smuggling Organization to step up crackdown against smuggled goods in South Punjab.
Customs ASO enhanced the monitoring and patrolling of suspected routes in the territory for curbing menace of smuggled goods.
He also constituted a team including Superintendent Anjum Sheraz, Inspector Qazi Muhammad Ashraf and others. The above mentioned ASO team raided suspicious godown located at Bilal Gang Motor Market and recovered foreign origin non customs paid heavy traffic vehicle (HTV) tyres. The ASO team asked the owner to produce documents regarding the possession and transportation of these items but he failed to provide any relevant documents.
After his failure the ASO team seized the tyres under section 168 of the customs act 1969 for violation of section 2(S) 16 and 18 of the customs act 1969.
ASO authorities after registering a case of smuggling against owner started further investigations. ASO officials said that the estimated value of seized tyres is more than Rs 58.7 million.
