FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization ( ASO ), Faisalabad, conducted various operations against smugglers on the special instructions by Additional Collector Saeed Asad and recovered goods worth Rs 16.6 million during the last week of July.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan constituted a team to curb smuggling in the region. The ASO team consisted of Saeed Akhtar Joiya (superintendent), Masood Saeed Chohan and Safdar Ali (inspectors), Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah (sepoys) seized three non-duty paid tempered vehicles worth Rs 1,610,000. The ASO team also confiscated a vehicle worth Rs 2,000,000 which was being used for smuggling and transportation of smuggled goods. The team seized different goods worth Rs 12,975,960. All these items were brought into the country without payment of customs duty and taxes.
Soures said that ASO all accused persons failed to show any relevant documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods. After their failure ASO team seized the goods and vehicle under Import and Export Control Act. 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89(i) 90 of the Customs Act 1969 and forward the cases to Customs Adjudication Faisalabad for legal action against accused persons.
