FAISALABAD: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized smuggled foreign origin cloth worth Rs 31 million from Pakistan Plaza Katchery Bazar Faisalabad.
Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh received information regarding smuggling attempt on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Anjum Sheraz, Inspectors Babar Iqbal, Rana Javed Iqbal Butt and Waqas Hameed Leghari to obtain warrants by area magistrate to search the godown.
The ASO team raided the godown owned by Muhammad Yaseen in wee hours of Thursday with the help of local police and recovered 14 tons of ladies suiting cloth. The cloth was transported into the country without payment of duty and taxes through illegal way.
Superintendent Anjum Sheraz asked the accused person to show documents but he could not produce any documentary evidence of lawful possession and legal imported cloth at the spot.
The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act 1969 after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items. The seized goods were taken to State Warehouse Faisalabad dryport.
The seizure report has been submitted to the adjudication department for further legal proceedings.
