FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization ( ASO ) conducted various operations against smugglers on the special instructions by Collector Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah and recovered goods worth Rs22,809,900 during the month of August.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Asif Mahmood Jah constituted a team to curb smuggling in the region. The ASO team comprising Tanveer Raza Naqvi, Khalid Ashraf Noor, Shah Nawaz, Hafiz Muhammad Waqas Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah seized one non duty paid tempered vehicle worth Rs9,00,000. The ASO team also confiscated six vehicles worth Rs7,80,0000 which was being used for smuggling and transportation of smuggled goods. The team seized foreign origin cloth 1100 kilograms worth Rs9,50,000 auto spare parts Rs 30000 and other items valued Rs1,31,29900. All these items were brought into the country without payment of customs duty and taxes.
Sources said that ASO all accused persons failed to show any relevant documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods. After their failure ASO team seized the goods and vehicle under Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89(i) 90 of the Customs Act 1969 and forward the cases to Customs Adjudication Faisalabad for legal action against accused persons.
