FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized dyed silk cloth worth Rs 1.2 million, besides impounding a Mazda mini truck being used for transportation of the smuggled goods.
As per the details, the ASO team acting upon information received through Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad Collector Tauseef Ahmed Qureshi intercepted a mini truck bearing registration number LPT-7396 near Bijli Ghar, Jaranwala Road, Faisalabad, and recovered 6,200 yards of silk cloth.
The ASO staff asked the driver to produce any documentary evidence showing the legal import and lawful possession of the said items, but he could not produce any documents, on which the ASO seized the cloth under the prevailing customs law.
The ASO team comprising Superintendent Zahid Bukhari, Inspector Safder Ali, Mehmood Ahmad Dogar, Muhammad Salam and other took part in the raid.
After holding the cloth and vehicle, the customs served a notice on the accused to appear before the competent authority to prove the legal importation of the cloth. However, after a considerable passage of time, no one appeared before the seizing agency to claim the ownership of the seized goods. Moreover, no proof of its legal import/lawful possession was produced. Therefore, the customs seized the cloth and impounded the vehicle after making a seizure report.
