LAHORE: The textile industry would fully tap the GSP Plus status with the elimination of power crisis and terrorism from Pakistan, Punjab governor Ch Sarwar hoped.
Speaking at APTMA House, the governor urged the Ministry of Water & Power to supply energy to the textile industry at affordable price on priority basis so as to get maximum benefit of the market access facility from the European Union.
Addressing the meeting, Coordinator of the EU Committee on Overseas Development and Cooperation Nirj Diva said the EU Committee was planning to provide grant for clean water project in Punjab. Mr Diva observed that he had met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to extend cooperation in education, health and other social sector projects.
Meanwhile, APTMA Chairman S M Tanveer said that Pakistan’s exports to the EU have increased by 29% during the period Jan to Sept 2014 after the opportunity of GSP+ from the EU. However, the real potential of the facility could not be materialised due to severe energy crisis since April 2014 onwards. There was surge in exports to EU during first three months followed by a continuous decline onwards till date, he added.
