Bahawalpur: Two officers of the Excise and Taxation Department embezzled more than Rs15 million of motor registration fees and other provincial taxes while the department has registered a case against the accused.
According to details, Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Muhammad Ahmad Khan, during inspection of the Motor Vehicle Branch, found embezzlement to the tune of more than Rs15 million in motor registration fee and provincial taxes.
Motor Registration Clerk Muhammad Ahsan Ikhlaq and Data Entry Operator Muhammad Maki received the amount in the head of motor registration fee from people but did not deposit the fee in government account. The accused also kept the registration files with them.
The department has constituted an Audit Team to carrying out a thorough investigation and dig out facts surrounding the scam.
Meanwhile, ETO Muhammad Ahmad Khan told the media that during inspection it was found out that both the officials had been involved in the fraud. He informed that a case had been registered against the accused in Cantt Police Station, adding that an application had also been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Establishment for registration of a case against the accused.
The ETO said that the Punjab E&T DG had also been informed about the scandal while charge sheet of Motor Branch’s Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer Rao Javed Akhtar, MTC Ahsan Ikhlaq, DEO Muhammad Maki had been submitted to the DG. He said that now these criminals would be arrested through police and each penny would be recovered from them.
