ISLAMABAD: Auditor General of Pakistan office has disclosed in audit report that eight field formations of Federal Board of Revenue has refused to provide the auditable record of 4,909 cases requisitioned by audit teams.
Sources told Customs Today, on Monday that auditor general held that non production of record was a serious violation of law, as it created hindrance in discharging constitutional role of the Auditor General Department.
It also deprived the government of cash recoveries effected at the instance of audit. Auditor General was asked to provide record of tax refunds issued during the year 2015, cases of exemptions issued by the eight field formations, record of assessment, record of selected for audit by the board or commissioner, with holding statements (sales tax and income tax ), audited accounts of tax payers, list of cases under recovery, details of broadening tax base cases where proceedings were pending along with the latest position, details of BTB cases where proceeding dropped along with reasons behind and details of third party data collected by CRTO Lahore (soft and hard format).
According to report Auditor General access to record of income and sales tax return, purchase sale invoices and bank statements to check compliance of Section 73 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 was totally denied to audit teams by all RTOs and LTUs.
