DUBAI: Dubai Customs has reinforced its support for land transport movements in the GCC and Arab countries through increased cooperation and coordination with the industry. With a view to strengthening this synergy, Dubai Customs has taken part in the 58th annual meeting of Arab Union of Land Transport, which was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of Federal Transport Authority – Land and Maritime, at Dubai Chamber.
Mr. Mohammed Al Muaini, Director of Land Customs Centers Management at Dubai Customs delivered a keynote address in the opening ceremony. He expressed DC’s appreciation of the efforts exerted by the Arab Union of Land Transport and the vital role it serves in boosting inter-Arab trade.
Al Maini said that “Dubai Customs attaches great important to being part of the Arab Union of Land Transport annual meetings, recognizing the importance of the road transport sector and its strong contribution to the economic, commercial and tourism development among the Arab countries. This participation also goes in line with the orientations of the Government of Dubai to provide ample support for all the activities and events that would contribute to improving government services. ”
The Director of Customs Centers Management at DC stressed that the United Arab Emirates adheres to signed international treaties and agreements aimed at promoting global best practices in the road transport business, particularly the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR Convention), to which the UAE became a party in 2006. The TIR Convention establishes an international customs transit system with optimum facility to move goods across borders.
AL Muaini added, “The UAE has set forward an exemplary model of innovative thinking capable of achieving global pioneerism. In light of the wise directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in developing government work; we at Dubai Customs are always keen to provide the best Customs experience for clients at all entry points of the Emirate.”
He further underlined that land customs centers are committed to abiding by the GCC Common Customs Law in dealing with goods and passengers, whether at Hatta border point which is an important passage between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, or in other land entry point such as Ducamz in the free-zone of largest car market in the world and the Dry Port Customs Centre. On his closing remarks, Mohammed Al Muaini wished for the meeting the utmost success in achieving its goals and creating an added value for the land transport sector.
Mr. Abdullah A. Al Majdouie, Chairman of Arab Union of Land Transport and Eng. Dr. Abdullah Salem Al Kathiri, the General Director of the Federal Transport Authority – Land and Maritime; presented an honouring trophy to Mohammed AL Muaini as a token of appreciation for Dubai Customs efforts and initiatives in facilitating land transport across Arab countries.
