ABU DHABI: A woman passenger was arrested by Dubai customs who tried to smuggle more than 1kg of heroin and 59 methadone tablets into the UAE.
Police had received a tip off about MN, 33, smuggling drugs whenever she came to the UAE on visit and circulated the information to all ports and airports.
MN was arrested on September 17 on arrival at Dubai International Airport. The accused denied having any luggage when was asked by officers.
However, a luggage bag was found as no passenger had claimed it. The bag was on the same flight of the suspect.
Confronting her with the bag, the suspect denied the bag belonged to her.
Police opened the bag in front of her. Searching the bag, a policewoman found a picture of the passenger inside a handbag. At this moment, the passenger, who was observing the search, admitted that the luggage bag was hers. Police also found a black packet that contained heroin. Drug tablets were also found in the bag.
The accused admitted that she was asked by someone called Adham to transport the drugs and that he would let her know to whom she should hand them over after smuggling them into the UAE in return for Dh20,000.
