KABUL: Dubai customs arrested a 24 years old Afghan national with drug-capsules hidden in his intestines at Dubai International Airport.
He claimed in court that he was not aware of the nature of the contents of 62 capsules that he smuggled in his intestines when he came to Dubai.
Prosecutors charged the defendant with smuggling and possessing 477g of heroin with the intent to promote the drug in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Court of First Instance’s presiding judge, Urfan Omar, dropped the promotional intent and modified the accusation to smuggling and possessing drugs without intent.
The suspect pleaded guilty and admitted that he smuggled the drugs.
“How did you smuggle the capsules and why?” presiding judge Omar asked the suspect in courtroom three.
“I smuggled them in my intestines… but I did not know the nature of the substance. I just smuggled them,” replied A.F.
A customs inspector testified to prosecutors that he suspected the defendant once he reached the arrivals terminal at 8.50pm from Afghanistan.
