MALACCA: Two suspected drug dealers including a uniformed personnel were nabbed by police after a high-speed chase in Taman Bertam Indah in Bertam Hulu here earlier today.
The duo, aged 27 and 33, had earlier rammed their car into a motorcycle ridden by a police motorcycle patrol unit (URB) personnel, causing the car to stall. Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said in the 10.30am incident, the URB personnel from Tanjung Minyak police station suffered injuries to his arm and right leg.
He said the injured policeman and another from the same police station had been despatched to assist in the pursuit. “Policemen had to break the window of the car to detain the suspects who refused to get out of their vehicle.
“Another policeman also suffered injuries to his lip after one of the suspects punched him on the face during a struggle,” he told reporters at the Melaka Tengah police station here today. He said earlier a policeman from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) had ordered the driver of the car to stop for inspection at Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) for driving suspiciously.
Adzis said the driver, who is a serving uniformed personnel refused to comply, resulting in the high-speed chase. He said police found 50 Eramin 5 pills and 30 gram of syabu worth RM11,000 inside the car. “Police also seized a rucksack, five mobile phones, a device for smoking syabu and a weighing scale,” he said, adding that the other suspect was unemployed. He said the case was being investigated under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 as well as Section 12 (2) of the same act for drug possession and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
